Peter Lawler, the new Chief of Police for Copper, AZ must find the culprit responsible for the hit and run death of a young girl, Ella, on Main street in Copper. The “accident” turns into a murder investigation leading to the nearby Apache Indian reservation. In turn this reveals the convoluted jurisdictional issues which must be overcome to solve his case.
Charlie Gatto is the FBI Special Agent in charge of the San Havi reservation and the murdered girl is the CI she was using to investigate child abuse in Indian Country. The Lawler and Gatto must join forces to overcome the legal problems presented by the conflicting jurisdictions.
What is discovered is corruption on the reservation way beyond child abuse. Their investigation sends them on a daisy chain of murders, money laundering, bribery, drugs, and worst of all kidnapping. In the various raids and arrests, they are challenged by legal and manpower issues as well as Lawler’s demons.
Can they possibly solve a hit and run mystery that may take their own lives in the process?
